SMMUG started in 2009 in Portland as a way for IT professionals to get together, learn from industry experts, and connect with people who share their interests. We began as the Southern Maine Microsoft User Group — today we cover every technology and simply go by SMMUG.

Not at all. We started as a Microsoft group back in 2009, but today we cover every technology — cloud, security, networking, AI, you name it. The name is just history now.

Nothing. Our events are free and usually come with food and drinks, thanks to the Friends of SMMUG who sponsor us.

We rotate across Portland, Freeport and Bangor in Maine, plus Portsmouth in New Hampshire. Each event lists its venue when it’s announced.
