SMMUG in Portsmouth NH: Desktop as a Service – Reality or Myth for Public Cloud?

As Public Cloud becomes a mainstream infrastructure play for many, many companies, the obvious question becomes, “Can I run a VDI solution in this space?” This session of SMMUG will dive into the pros/cons of Public Cloud as a platform along with a roadmap discussion of where Citrix, led by Citrix Cloud SME, Todd Smith, is taking Citrix Workspace Cloud, Citrix Essentials, and other technologies. Most believe that running VDI in Public Cloud is difficult, maybe even impossible. GreenPages will be on hand to review a functioning architecture that was built to support 1000s of users across the globe. In addition, Chris Williams (AWS Architect for GreenPages) along with David P. Barter (Public Cloud Evangelist for GreenPages) will discuss how to support this solution in the Public Cloud space to help you avoid mistakes and costly rebuilds, and even worse: project failure.

Todd Smith is a Sr. Sales Engineering Manager at Citrix Systems.  In this capacity, Todd manages a team of technical sales professionals providing customers and partners with secure application and desktop delivery solutions for business challenges.  He has been responsible for the healthcare vertical, as well as emerging products.  His particular areas of expertise include the delivery of mission critical applications, desktop and server virtualization, mobile computing, disaster recovery, IT compliance, information security, and green IT.

David Barter has more than 20 years of experience in the IT industry beginning as a break-fix technician and serving in a variety of key technical and professional roles, including CIO, Territory Manager, Engineer, Solutions Architect, and Commercial Sales Executive.   David is a Microsoft P-Seller and is CIE Certified with deep expertise designing and implementing a wide range of advanced Microsoft and hybrid cloud solutions for clients in all vertical markets. David also manages GreenPages’ End User Computing and Microsoft Practices and has been working with Citrix VDI from the first iterations of Citrix WinFrame.

Chris Williams – As a LogicsOne Enterprise Consultant, Chris is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting virtualization and cloud solutions that span the entire IT stack from server infrastructure, network architecture, storage solutions, server guest operating systems and enterprise server applications.
