The threats are widespread, even coming from within an organization. Attackers are becoming smarter and targeting the most critical systems in an environment. They are going after hypervisors, system firmware, storage arrays, and the backup repository systems. Disgruntled IT staff have even deleted backups from repositories before deleting VMs. Attackers have even posed as employees of an organization and gained access to cloud copies of data in order to delete it. The only way to ensure your organization’s data is safe from these threats is to have an immutable copy of your data, on-site, that is kept offline as much as possible.
